چکیده
Amines are important building blocks possessing various applications in agrochemicals, the fine chemical industry, pharmaceuticals, materials science and biotechnology. The catalytic hydrogenation of nitriles is an important reaction for the onestep synthesis of diverse amines. However, significant amounts of side product formation during the course of the reaction is a major issue. In recent years, an enormous amount of work has been reported using both homogeneous and heterogeneous transition metal complex catalysts for the selective reduction of nitriles. Transition metal catalysts are the most crucial factor that controls the selectivity in this reaction. Therefore, transition metal catalysts are the central point of this review. We have also briefly discussed the effect of reaction parameters, selectivity to different substrate structures and reaction mechanisms. This review provides an overview of recent developments in transition metal-catalyzed nitrile reduction along with examples which highlight its vast potential in organic transformations.

Advances in transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of heteroaromatic compounds.
Transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of heteroaromatic compounds is undoubtedly a straightforward and environmentally friendly method for the synthesis of a wide range of optically active heterocyclic compounds, which are widespread and ubiquitous in naturally occurring and artificial bioactive molecules. Over the past decade, a number of transition metal (Ir, Rh, Ru, and Pd) cat...
متن کاملBrønsted acid activation strategy in transition-metal catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of N-unprotected imines, enamines, and N-heteroaromatic compounds.
Asymmetric hydrogenation plays an important role in organic synthesis, but that of the challenging substrates such as N-unprotected imines, enamines, and N-heteroaromatic compounds (1H-indoles, 1H-pyrroles, pyridines, quinolines, and quinoxalines) has only received increased attention in the past three years. Considering the interaction modes of a Brønsted acid with a Lewis base, Brønsted acids...
متن کاملSelective Hydrogenation of Nitriles to Primary Amines Catalyzed by a Polysilane/SiO2‐Supported Palladium Catalyst under Continuous‐Flow Conditions
Hydrogenation of nitriles to primary amines with heterogeneous catalysts under liquid-phase continuous-flow conditions is described. Newly developed polysilane/SiO2-supported Pd was found to be an effective catalyst and various nitriles were converted into primary amine salts in almost quantitative yields under mild reaction conditions. Interestingly, a complex mixture was obtained under batch ...
متن کاملEnantioselective hydrogenation with chiral frustrated Lewis pairs.
The development of transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation could be stated as the cradle of modern enantioselective catalysis. Since the early asymmetric hydrogenation example from Knowles and Sabacky in 1968, the method has rapidly advanced over the years into an important tool in academia and chemical industry. In general, for these transformations the development of effective tra...
